米著名実業家・慈善家のエリ・ブロード（Eli Broad）氏が、1億ドル（約83億円）を投じて、2013年に米ロサンゼルスに新現代アート美術館をオープンすることを発表した。
この新美術館は、ブロード氏が設立した「ブロード美術財団」が1億ドル（約83億円）を投じて建設。美術館の総面積は約8600平米で、その半分はブロード氏のアートコレクションを保管する倉庫になる。約2000点のアート作品が集められる予定だという。建設地は、ロサンゼルスのウォルト・ディズニー・コンサートホールに隣接する。
エリ・ブロード氏は米国有数のアートコレクターとして知られる。同氏が1984年に設立したブロード美術財団は毎年数百点のアートを購入し、これまでに450以上の美術館や大学のギャラリーに資金提供をしてきた。2008年にロサンゼルス郡美術館（LACMA）内にオープンした「ブロード現代美術館」など、ブロード氏の名を冠したアート施設も多い。

Eli and Edythe Broad created The Broad Foundations[9] to advance entrepreneurship for the public good in education, science and the arts. The Broad Foundations, which include The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and The Broad Art Foundation, have assets of $2.4 billion.[citation needed]In 2010, the Broads announced their participation in "The Giving Pledge," a commitment for wealthy individuals to give at least half of their wealth to charity.[10] The Broads personally committed to give 75% of their wealth away.[11]
As of March 2013, Forbes ranked Broad the 191st wealthiest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $6.3 billion.[12]
