研究チームは動物の目がどの程度光を処理できているかを調べるために、フリッカー値(CFF)をテストしました。テストは動物の目に向けて光を1秒あたり4回フラッシュさせ、目が何回収縮するかチェックするものです。「フリッカー値が4」とは、毎秒4ヘルツ以上の高速点滅ではフラッシュを点滅と感知できず安定した光に見えているということです。例えば蛍光灯は人間の目では感知できないほど高速で点滅しているため、安定した光に見えているのです。研究者は動物にとって光の点滅が安定した光に見える数値がどの程度なのかを調べるため、テストを行いました。
