Urs Fischer - Curator Jessica Morgan - MOCAU - MOCAtv - YouTube

Jessica Morgan of Tate Modern tours Urs Fischer, the first US survey of the Swiss-born artist, which she curated for The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. The eponymous exhibition spreads across the two sites of the museum. While the floor of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is filled with a sprawling clay sculpture entitled Yes -- a rollicking, undulating outpouring of the imaginations of 1,500 Angelenos -- on display at MOCA Grand Avenue is two decades' worth of works that engage a variety of strategies, concepts, and materials. Ultimately, Fischer is drawn to the process of creation and to inevitable decay, undermining our desire for the representational with louche skeletal figures and recasting totemic artistic creations as wax, clay, and food-based ruins-in-waiting.
