私たち人間が行う様々なジェスチャー
の中に、なんらかの潜在的動機によっ
て物を配したり、世界を配置し直したり
する行為があります。私たちはほとんど
無意識にこれを行っているのです。ちょ
うど呼吸をしていることを忘れるのに
似ている、このささやかな忘却は、私た
ちにとって穏やかな喜びのひとつです。
私には、人間が物の配置を見てこれほ
ど即座にその意図を読み解くことがで
きるというのが、未だに半ば奇跡的に
思われます。慣れっこになんて決してな
れないでしょう。
Amongst the many gestures that
humans make are the ones where
we put objects down or rearrange
the world for some ulterior motive.
We barely know we do this. This
oblivion, a little like the way we
forget that we breathe, is one of
our gentle pleasures. To me, it
still seems semi-miraculous that
humans can read so quickly the
sense of purpose in the way that
objects are arranged. I can never
quite get used to it.
