ほったらかしのままでしたが、全体を訳出しました。ただし全訳はあまりにくどいのでポイントと引用とコメントのみを順次掲載していきます。近代において２つの亡霊ないしは言説（ロマン主義と科学主義）の間で宙吊りになって不恰好なステップのダンスを踊らざるを得ない写真という位置づけは、写真論の考古学を試みるうえで基本的な文献ということができるかもしれません。また、「身体とアーカイヴ」でも部分的に姿を見せていたアーカイヴ論がかなり具体的に転回されている炭鉱写真＝写真を掘り出すこと〔Mining Photographs〕論（「アーカイヴを読むこと」）も直に掲載することになります。
