ヘイドン・ホワイト（Hayden White、1928年 - ）は、アメリカの歴史家、文芸批評家。カリフォルニア大学サンタクルーズ校名誉教授。
1951年、ウェイン州立大学で歴史学を学んだ後、ミシガン大学大学院に進学し、修士号（1952年）と博士号（1956年）取得。スタンフォード大学で教鞭を執った。

本論は、以前（まだ大学の学部生の頃）、私が可能性を感じていた「歴史叙述論」についてのノートの一部です。ここでは、特にヘイドン・ホワイトの『メタヒストリー』に焦点を当てています。残念ながら、当時の私はその哲学的可能性を感じつつも、先へと考察を展開させることができず、歴史叙述論に関する研究は放置されてしまいましたが、現在のものの考え方の基礎の一つになっている側面もあります。もう一度考察を進めたいという希望的観測の意味も込めて、読むに耐えうるノートの一部を公開する次第です。なお、本文は全て当時のままですので、現在の私の考えとはかなりかけ離れた点があることも、申し沿えておきます。執筆は1998年8月
